The Problem

El Salvador is still recuperating from a 20-year civil war that decimated their population. Most of the country lives in rural villages far away from the capital of San Salvador, the only area where eye care is available.

Our Solutions

CharityVision partners with local eye organization Fudem by providing them with supplies and funds to reach their charitable goals. Fudem performs nearly 6,000 surgeries and donates 50,000 pairs of glasses per year with assistance from CharityVision.

Who Is FUDEM?

FUDEM stands for Fundacion para el Desarrollo de la Mujer or "The Development of Women Foundation". In 1989, in the midst of civil war, a group of women got together to help their country through eye care. FUDEM was founded and designed to provide eye health to women and children. FUDEM have helped 1.2 million children and performed 67,000 eye surgeries. We are amazed by the determination of these women in improving care for those in need!

Stories from the field

Graciela suffered from Strabismus in both eyes, leaving her cross-eyed and unable to see. Both parents work hard, but together they only make $400 dollars per month.

They felt heartbroken that they could not afford Graciela's surgery. Thanks to our partners at FUDEM and our wonderful donors, Graciela was able to receive her surgery just in time for Valentine's Day!
