Immediate Needs

Tanzania has very few ophthalmologists and extremely limited access to eye care. Most of the blind or visually impaired never receive treatment. Those who do are required to purchase their own surgical supplies, which only 30% of the population can afford.

Our Solutions

CharityVision owns an eye hospital in Dodoma and partners with public hospitals to provide charitable labor to those who cannot afford treatment. However, we need more surgical packs for our hospital as well as funds to begin a screening and treatment program for patients in rural villages.

In February 2020, CharityVision created Love At First Sight fundraiser to fight blindness in Tanzania and help people see their love ones for Valentine’s day.

We were able to raise $20,000 to help our partners with cataract kits and prescription glasses. But we can do more!
For only 25 dollars donated, someone gets 1 cataract surgery. For 10 dollars, a child gets new prescription glasses.

Stories from the field

This month, Dr. Mgonja and our team in Tanzania organized a free eye exam at Faith’s high school. Thanks to that event, Faith received prescription glasses to help her see the board and homework clearly for the first time in 7 years! She loves her glasses and she’s ready to finish high school with a new outlook on life and good grades.

Mwanaisha Ally is a 78-year-old widow and a dedicated mother of six. She’s been living in total blindness for years due to her financial situation. Thanks to two $25 donations, and our Tanzania team, she could get both eyes fixed and see again! She said: “It’s a miracle or a dream come true because I can see my grandchildren for the first time!”.

Dropping off consumables to two partners this month! On the left, our Partners from Mbeya RHH picking up their boxes to perform 500 eye surgeries. On the right, Dr. Msigomba from Ilembula came to pick up his surgery kits. Very grateful to partner with generous doctors to help the community.
